Mark, I have my guys clean the mating surfaces of the wheels then torque the wheels then road test and re-torque the wheels and the mark the lugs with a paint pen (its easy to clean off). they have to record this on their work order. We have eliminated our loose wheel problem.
We use the KEW Scorpion Magnum Pressure Wahser which has steam and cold water. We bought it in 2002 for $2895.00 from Northere Central Hydrowash 800-272-5060 and has done real well for us. Hope this helps....Carl

1-RVT replaces studs & wheel nuts on a regular basis. Anytime a wheel is removed for any reason we also torque the wheel nuts with a torque wrench, then we recheck the torque on the wheel nuts a day later. Outside of keeping the wheel clean especially around the wheel nut seat make sure the seat area isn't worn. If the wheel checks are melting you may have a problem with brake heat.
2-RVT bought a Dynablast Hot Water Pressure Washer Model # H2015DEFI about seven years ago & it has worked great. No problems other than routine service items.

Mark,

Our Ford E450's give us the most trouble with lugs coming loose. It's always on the rear. What we've done is any time we have the wheels off the vehicle we re-torque the lugs after the first day of service. This seems to have helped a lot. Another thing we do is replace any lugs and studs that appear to be worn out.

On the few occasions we had lugs come loose on the bigger buses we found the threads corroded off the studs where they are in contact with the wheel.

1)We have been experiencing a rash of loose wheel lugs. Does anybody do anything out of the ordinary when it comes to wheel lugs? We torque our wheel lugs with a torque wrench and make sure everything is clean etc. We also use the lime green wheel indicators but have a problem with them getting too hot and melting.
2)Can anyone recommend a pressure washer for cleaning engine compartments and radiators. Our old steam cleaner is biting the dust and it seems like pressure washers are the way to go.
