John sorry about getting to the party late, but same answer as Dennis and Steve. I have replaced a ton of these, Talked to Bob Birdwell(gillig) and he wanted all kinds of data collected but was very time consuming and I didn't follow through any more.

We have the same issue with that pump and like Dennis said a lot of the problems arise from the fitting being over tightened or the line not secured properly.
We purchase this pump from Muncie for $597.75.

We have had lots of problems with 05-42481-005. I contacted Gillig tech service once due to the number of pumps we were replacing. They develope hairline cracks around where the upper fitting attaches. Of course Gillig gave me the standard answer that they haven't seen that problem. I think there are two contributing factors. One, you're putting a hard steel fitting into a soft aluminum body and if it's over tighntend, what's going to give out first? The aluminum body of course. The other any excess strain caused by the hose not being suppoerted properly. I think there can't be any excess straing from the hose at the fitting. What I mean by that is the hose must be supported by clamps or you put excessive strain on the fitting at the pump which could caus cracking of the housing.

Has anyone had bad luck with the hydraulic pumps, we have 2 of them leaking pretty severely we replaced one of the pumps about a year ago and my foreman was looking into the problem. He checked lines we got new ends that screw into the pump, that seems to be where it's leaking from. We woukd love to not replace the pumps because of cost. Just curious if anyone has had this issue and what the fix is.
