The rear heaters are still there. Here are pictures of the hoses in the bus. They are jacketed, but I still think they could be a hazard to passengers. |

Thanks for the heads up Denny. I am in the final PO stages for three vans from Rohrer as we speak. I am wondering if we can order without that clustermess on it. I agree. Not much engineering in that one. |

Dennis, Do you have pictures of the hoses in the passenger area? PCID No. 1123 on page 8 of 21, top paragraph reads, "The supplier shall indicate on the interior seating/floor design drawing the actual location of the rear heater". We have just finalized specs for our next order of vans and the rear heater is not indicated on the seating floor plan! WOW imagine that!! |

Good morning everyone. I want to share something we found during the acceptance inspections on the latest batch of vans we recieved off the state contract. We received these mid April. I have attached photos. Hopefully they will upload. If not, I will provide them, just ask. In the latest batch, a circulation pump and an electrically actuated solenoid were added to the rear coolant hoses because the A/C evaporator now has a heater core in it as a supplement to the floor mounted heater. Why they did this is anyone's guess because the floor mounted heater has always been suffiecient. The problem lies in the installation of the circulation pump and the potential hazards to passengers with hot coolant running up to the ceiling. Not well thought out in my opinion. The circulation pump is mounted to the outside of the left frame rail just aft of the manual shutoff valve. The solenoid valve is mounted in line with the manual shutoff valve. The whole setup looks like an afterthought with no real engineering. The two valves are just hanging there flopping around. The hoses that run to the back are chaffing up against at least two bolts on the frame rail. The three that we've done the inspection on are all the same. In addition, every where there was a coupling required, they used plasitic which will be a source of problems. Lastly, the two coolant hoses run up through the side wall on the street side rear corner. Just imagine having to replace that as we eventually will. And just imagine hot coolant spraying over passengers if one ruptures. I contacted Ryan at Rohrer and they are going to fix the problem with the chaffing hoses and the valves just hanging there. I will not sign off on them the way they are. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask me. |
