Gary, My newest Phantoms are 1995s and we have not had pump failures on those buses. On my low-floors (04,05,06,08,etc)we have had a few we replaced due to seal leakage. The only ones that we had the housing crack on was due to the mechanics trying to stop the leak by tightening the jam nut too much. The only way to fix them correctly is to disconnect the hose, remove the jam nut, washer and o-ring and reinstall a new o-ring making sure it seats against the smooth un-threaded section of the fitting. Has anyone else been changing pump #05-42481-005 more than normal. This is on my '05-06 Phantoms. I have replaced 34 since '07, total cost $24,500. I am requesting Gillig to look into this problem and I am putting together all the information he is requesting- dates for repairs, filter changes, fluid changes, oil specs, etc. Is anyone else had or has this problem please forward some information to Bob Birdwell, Jerry Sheehan, Steve Myers and me. Almost all repairs, the pump was replaced because the thread area on the supply side (top fitting)cracks. |
