You and your co-workers are invited to our annual PPTA Summer Meeting and Roadeo, hosted by Altoona Metro Transit, on August 2 through 5. To allow for maximum participation, the Roadeo will include two competitions for drivers to test their skills. Our first competition will feature a 35’ Gillig, followed by our Paratransit Roadeo featuring a Ford Body on Chassis. Please note that a minimum of ten (10) drivers must be registered for each competition by June 30 or the event will not be held.

The PPTA Bus & Paratransit Roadeo will begin on Saturday afternoon with registration at the Holiday Inn Express, followed by a picnic and baseball game at the Blair County Ballpark, one of the most beautiful stadiums in the minor leagues. The Altoona Curve (a Pittsburgh Pirate affiliate) will be up against the Bowie Baysox (a Baltimore Oriole affiliate). On Sunday, August 3, AMTRAN will transport us to the Logan Valley Mall, where the Roadeo will be held.

AMTRAN General Manager, Eric Wolf, and his team have planned an outstanding evening on Sunday at “Toona-ritaville.” We’ll throw some steaks on the grill and dine by candlelight under the stars in a tropical atmosphere, complete with a sandy beach! Be sure to wear any “Parrothead” gear you own and enter the tropical shirt contest by wearing your most unusual flowered shirt. The party venue is the site of AMTRAN’s new joint development project across the street from their operations center. Of course, the evening’s transportation will be provided by AMTRAN buses, so you can relax and enjoy the evening of good fun with good friends. Get that shirt and “Meet me in Toona-ritaville” to enjoy the “Changes in Latitudes--Changes in Attitudes”

On Monday, August 4, we’re back to business with committee meetings from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Casino at Lakemont Park. We will complete our work with a PPTA membership meeting and luncheon. Transportation will be provided.

To round out the day on Monday, we will meet at the newly remodeled Buccinese Club for a delicious Italian meal followed by a fun-filled night of bocce ball on both indoor and outdoor courts. Bocce is fun and easy to learn, so whether you’re a “newbie” or an old pro, you’ll have a great time. While we have some “veteran” teams, every year one of the pick-up teams goes home with medals, so join in the fun. Transportation will be provided by AMTRAN.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Express, at 3306 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602. To ensure availability, make your reservation as soon as possible, by calling (814) 944-9661. Be sure to mention PPTA to get the special rate of $79.95. The cut-off on the special room rate is July 11. You and your staff should plan now to register drivers and judges to participate in PPTA’s Annual Summer Meeting and Roadeo. Everyone is invited to join in the camaraderie of the Roadeo and come out for the baseball game on Saturday evening. Our committee and membership meetings offer excellent opportunities to contribute and network with your peers. So mark your calendar, send in your registration, and get ready for a terrific time! If you have any questions, call PPTA/PennTRAIN at (800) 847-0333.
